R12™ Native 12-Bit ADC — Full Resolution at Full Bandwidth

The UPO2104HD is built around UNI-T's R12™ native 12-bit ADC architecture, delivering 4,096 quantization levels across the full 100 MHz bandwidth at the full 2.5 GSa/s sample rate. Unlike oscilloscopes that rely on enhanced-resolution averaging to improve vertical performance, R12™ maintains full bandwidth, sample rate, and acquisition performance without mathematical processing or acquisition compromises.

For power electronics, embedded development, precision analog design, and sensor characterization, the additional vertical resolution reveals ripple, switching artifacts, and low-amplitude analog behavior that conventional 8-bit oscilloscopes often bury in quantization noise.

Ultra Phosphor 3.0 — Up to 1,000,000 Waveforms per Second

Ultra Phosphor 3.0 combines high-speed acquisition with 256-level grayscale intensity mapping to reveal intermittent waveform behavior in real time. Continuous acquisition reaches 250,000 wfms/s, while Sequence mode increases capture performance to 1,000,000 wfms/s for trigger-qualified events.

The acquisition engine combines high trigger sensitivity, low trigger jitter, and hardware zone triggering to isolate non-repetitive events. Density-graded waveform persistence makes runts, glitches, timing violations, and intermittent protocol errors visible long before they become reproducible failures.

Six Instruments in One Platform

The UPO2104HD integrates six laboratory instruments into one bench platform: high-resolution oscilloscope, enhanced FFT spectrum analyzer, digital voltmeter, hardware frequency counter, protocol analyzer, and optional power-analysis suite.

With four analog channels available to every measurement engine, users can perform multi-rail power validation, protocol correlation, spectrum analysis, and precision waveform measurements simultaneously without switching instruments or reconnecting probes.

Deep Memory — 100 Mpts Standard

The UPO2104HD includes 100 Mpts of acquisition memory as standard equipment. At the full 2.5 GSa/s sample rate, this provides approximately 40 ms of continuous full-resolution acquisition, allowing complete startup sequences, fault recovery events, communication bursts, and long transient behavior to be captured in a single acquisition.

Combined with uninterrupted recording of up to 125,000 waveform frames, hardware mask testing, and enhanced-resolution processing, the deep memory architecture allows engineers to analyze extended events without sacrificing timing resolution.

Nine Protocol Decoders Included Standard

Nine serial-bus protocol decoders are included with every UPO2104HD: RS-232/UART, I²C, SPI, CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay, SENT, and Audio.

Each protocol supports hardware triggering, decoding, searchable event lists, and synchronized analog correlation. Engineers can align decoded protocol traffic directly with analog waveforms, simplifying root-cause analysis of communication failures caused by power-supply disturbances, signal-integrity issues, or timing violations. All protocol options are included standard with no additional license purchases.

Optional 12-Parameter Power Analysis

The optional power-analysis package extends the UPO2104HD with twelve specialized power-electronics measurements, including power quality, harmonic analysis, current harmonics, RDS(on), switching loss, slew rate, safe operating area, modulation analysis, output ripple, startup and shutdown timing, transient response, and efficiency.

The integrated analysis eliminates the need for external post-processing, allowing designers to move directly from waveform acquisition to engineering measurements during switching-converter development and validation.

Enhanced FFT Spectrum Analyzer — Up to 4 Mpts

The built-in enhanced FFT provides frequency-domain analysis using up to 4 Mpts FFT length with waterfall display, multiple trace views, and automatic or manual marker functions.

Engineers can quickly identify switching harmonics, clock spurs, EMI sources, and spectral artifacts directly on the oscilloscope without transferring waveform data to external software, streamlining pre-compliance investigation and mixed-domain debugging.

Automated Measurements, Statistics & Mask Testing

Fifty-six automated measurements operate continuously across all channels with statistical analysis, histograms, trend charts, and snapshot displays. Enhanced amplitude algorithms improve measurement accuracy on burst-mode and complex waveforms where conventional measurement engines often produce misleading results.

Hardware-accelerated mask testing provides rapid pass/fail validation for production testing, design verification, and long-duration stability testing.

10.1-Inch Touch Interface with WebServer Connectivity

The UPO2104HD features a 10.1-inch 1280 × 800 capacitive multi-touch display supporting pinch, zoom, drag, rectangle selection, and gesture-based waveform navigation alongside traditional front-panel controls. Mouse and keyboard operation are supported simultaneously.

Connectivity includes USB Host, USB Device, LAN, HDMI, EXT Trigger, AUX Out, and standard SCPI remote control. The integrated WebServer enables browser-based operation from PCs or mobile devices without additional software installation, making the UPO2104HD equally suited for laboratory benches and automated test environments.

What protocols are included with the UPO2104HD?

RS-232/UART, I²C, SPI, CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay, SENT, and Audio decoding are included standard at no additional cost. All nine supported protocols are available out of the box — no optional licenses required, no time-boxed unlocks.

What is the advantage of native 12-bit resolution?

A 12-bit ADC provides 4,096 vertical levels compared to 256 for an 8-bit scope — sixteen times greater detail. This reveals small signals riding on large ones, reduces quantization noise, and improves measurement accuracy on low-amplitude signals like power-supply ripple, sensor outputs, and precision analog circuits. R12™ holds the 12-bit resolution at the full bandwidth and sample rate, with no ERES averaging or sample-rate trade-off.

Can I add power-supply analysis?

Yes. The optional power-analysis package adds 12 measurements: power quality, harmonic analysis, current harmonics, RDS(on), switching loss, slew rate, safe operating area, modulation analysis, output ripple, startup/shutdown time, transient response, and power efficiency. The UPO2000HD-PWR activation unlocks the package on any UPO2000HD-series oscilloscope.

How does the touchscreen handle daily lab use?

The 10.1-inch capacitive multi-touch display supports pinch, drag, zoom, rectangle-draw, and edit gestures alongside the traditional knobs and one-touch front-panel keys. Mouse and keyboard are supported in parallel. For lab settings where students or engineers cycle through the instrument frequently, the gesture set is familiar from consumer devices; for production-style workflows where physical controls are preferred, the front panel still does what front panels do.

How does the UPO2104HD compare to 8-bit oscilloscopes at similar bandwidth?

The 12-bit ADC delivers 16× the vertical resolution of an 8-bit scope at the same bandwidth, with no ERES averaging or sample-rate trade-off. Low-amplitude signals — switching ripple, sensor outputs, precision analog circuits — that 8-bit scopes flatten into quantization noise show up clearly on the 12-bit display. For analog precision work and switching-converter validation, the resolution advantage is structural, not a marketing comparison.

Is the firmware field-upgradable?

Yes. Firmware updates are free over the product's lifetime and install via USB drive or LAN transfer. Optional license unlocks (such as the power-analysis package) have no expiration.

Can the instrument be controlled from a PC or from a browser?

Both. SCPI is supported standard via USB Device or LAN for automated test scripts and PC-side instrument-management software. The built-in WebServer enables direct browser-based control from a PC or mobile device on the same network — no PC-side software install required.
