The MSO1254HD is a lab-grade 250 MHz, four-channel mixed signal oscilloscope built on UNI-T's R12™ native 12-bit ADC architecture, engineered for switching power supply validation, wide-bandgap (GaN/SiC) power-stage characterization, embedded-system development and mixed-signal debugging.

The native 12-bit acquisition system maintains the full 250 MHz analog bandwidth at 2.5 GSa/s without ERES averaging or sample-rate tradeoffs, delivering 4,096 vertical levels and 100 Mpts of acquisition memory per channel. Ultra Phosphor 3.0 waveform mapping captures up to 1,000,000 wfms/s, while a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen and optional 16-channel logic analyzer provide an intuitive platform for analog and digital system validation. The MSO1254HD integrates nine instrument functions into a single bench platform, combining oscilloscope, logic analyzer (optional UT-M26), spectrum analyzer, protocol analyzer, digital voltmeter, frequency counter, power analyzer, and advanced measurement tools without additional hardware.

For switching converter design, GaN and SiC gate-drive characterization, multi-rail power analysis, embedded firmware debugging, and precision analog measurements where 8-bit oscilloscopes struggle with low-level signals, the MSO1254HD occupies the performance tier where higher bandwidth and native 12-bit resolution become equally important. The full 250 MHz bandwidth captures fast switching edges and ringing, while the 12-bit architecture resolves mV- and µV-scale ripple riding on high-voltage DC rails. Standard decoding for RS-232/UART, I²C, SPI, RS-422/485, CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, and Audio, together with optional 16-channel mixed-signal acquisition, allows simultaneous correlation of firmware activity, serial communications, and analog power-stage behavior from a single instrument.

Detailed Features

Native 12-Bit R12™ Architecture

The MSO1254HD is built around UNI-T's R12™ native 12-bit ADC architecture, delivering 4,096 vertical quantization levels across the full 250 MHz bandwidth and 2.5 GSa/s sample rate without bandwidth reduction, digital averaging, or sample-rate compromise. Unlike conventional 8-bit oscilloscopes that lose low-level detail in quantization noise, the native 12-bit acquisition system clearly resolves switching ripple, gate-drive ringing, sensor outputs, and small analog signals while preserving fast-edge performance. Optional ERES processing extends effective vertical resolution even further when working with band-limited signals.

Ultra Phosphor 3.0 Acquisition Engine

Ultra Phosphor 3.0 combines high-speed acquisition with 256-level intensity grading to capture up to 1,000,000 waveforms per second. The persistence display makes intermittent glitches, runt pulses, timing jitter, and protocol anomalies visible as intensity variations rather than isolated events that disappear between screen updates. For engineers tracking elusive failures, the high waveform capture rate significantly improves the probability of capturing infrequent events during live debugging.

Deep Memory — 100 Mpts Per Channel

Every analog channel includes 100 Mpts of acquisition memory, allowing long capture windows while maintaining the full 2.5 GSa/s sample rate. Engineers can capture complete startup sequences, switching transients, protocol transactions, and fault-recovery events in a single acquisition before zooming into individual edges at full timing resolution. Deep memory eliminates the sample-rate compromises often required on lower-end oscilloscopes during long-duration captures.

Mixed-Signal Debugging

With the optional UT-M26 logic probe, the MSO1254HD expands into a 16-channel mixed-signal oscilloscope capable of displaying digital and analog signals on a common time base. Firmware activity, serial buses, GPIO timing, and analog responses can be analyzed simultaneously, simplifying root-cause analysis where hardware and software interact. Time-correlated triggering allows engineers to identify relationships that would otherwise require multiple instruments.

Complete Protocol Analysis Standard

Unlike many competing oscilloscopes that require paid software licenses, the MSO1254HD includes decoding and triggering for RS-232/UART, RS-422, RS-485, I²C, SPI, CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, and Audio buses as standard features. Decoded packets are displayed directly above the physical waveform with searchable event lists and protocol-specific triggers, allowing communication errors to be correlated immediately with analog signal behavior.

Integrated Power Analysis

The built-in power-analysis package provides twelve measurement categories including efficiency, switching loss, harmonic analysis, ripple, safe operating area, transient response, startup/shutdown timing, and power quality. Voltage and current waveforms are analyzed directly within the oscilloscope, eliminating the need for external software or separate power analyzers during converter development and validation.

Enhanced FFT Spectrum Analyzer

The integrated spectrum analyzer performs FFT analysis with record lengths up to 1 Mpts, providing peak detection, multiple markers, waterfall display, and harmonic analysis for switching-frequency investigation, EMI troubleshooting, and clock analysis. Engineers can move seamlessly between time-domain and frequency-domain measurements without exporting waveform data to external software.

Automated Measurements and Statistical Analysis

Fifty-six automated measurements continuously evaluate voltage, timing, frequency, and power parameters while statistical analysis tracks minimum, maximum, average, standard deviation, and long-term trends. Histogram and trend displays simplify characterization, production validation, and long-duration stability testing without requiring offline analysis.

Touchscreen Interface and Connectivity

The 7-inch capacitive multi-touch display supports intuitive gesture controls including pinch-to-zoom, drag, and waveform navigation while maintaining dedicated front-panel controls for traditional operation. USB Host, USB Device, LAN, HDMI, and AUX output provide flexible connectivity for automated test systems, classroom environments, remote operation, and external display support.

Need an integrated signal generator and Bode plot analysis? See the MSO1254HD-S. Need a 150 MHz value-tier option? See the MSO1154HD.

What protocols are included with the MSO1254HD?

RS-232/UART, I²C, SPI, RS-422, RS-485, CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, and Audio decoding are included standard at no additional cost. All supported protocols are available out of the box — no optional licenses required.

What is the advantage of native 12-bit resolution?

A 12-bit ADC provides 4,096 vertical levels compared to 256 for an 8-bit scope — sixteen times greater detail. This reveals small signals riding on large ones, reduces quantization noise, and improves measurement accuracy on low-amplitude signals like power-supply ripple, sensor outputs, and precision analog circuits. R12™ holds the 12-bit resolution at the full bandwidth and sample rate, with no ERES averaging or sample-rate trade-off.

Can I add digital channels for mixed-signal debugging?

Yes. The UT-M26 logic probe pod adds 16 digital channels for time-correlated analog and digital views.

Does this model include a signal generator?

No. For an integrated 1-channel 25 MHz AWG with Bode plot analysis, see the MSO1254HD-S.

How does the MSO1254HD compare to the higher-bandwidth UPO2000HD or MSO3000HD scopes?

The MSO1000HD platform shares the same R12™ 12-bit ADC architecture, Ultra Phosphor 3.0 acquisition, and standard-included protocol decoding as the UPO2000HD and MSO3000HD families. The differences are bandwidth (150–250 MHz here vs 100–500 MHz on UPO2000HD and 350–1000 MHz on MSO3000HD), capture rate (1,000,000 wfms/s here vs 1,500,000 wfms/s on MSO3000HD), and the front-panel form factor. For embedded prototyping and mid-tier power-electronics work, the MSO1000HD platform delivers the same architectural advantages at a lower price point.

Is the firmware field-upgradable?

Yes. Firmware updates are free over the product's lifetime and install via USB drive or LAN transfer. Optional license unlocks (such as the LA16 logic-analyzer license, when ordered with the UT-M26 pod) have no expiration.
